Newport County seeking emergency goalkeeper loan after Nick Townsend injury

AFC NEWPORT COUNTY manager Michael Flynn is chasing a goalkeeper on emergency loan ahead of tomorrow’s crucial League Two clash at Cambridge United.

Number one Joe Day is fit to play but substitute Nick Townsend is still struggling with a bicep injury.

Townsend has missed the last three games, leaving County without cover on the bench if Day is sent off or injured.

And Flynn is trying to get a keeper in before tomorrow’s game at Abbey Stadium.

A deal will need to be signed and sealed by midday today for the player to make the Cambridge squad.

SAVE: Nick Townsend in action for the Exiles at Middlesbrough in January

Townsend, who signed a two-year contract last summer, made 10 appearances in his first season with the Exiles.

His most publicized game was at Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round in January and his last appearance was at Grimsby Town on February 2.

Scot Bennett is fit to return tomorrow and Jamille Matt, who was sent off with a dead leg in the 0-0 draw with Swindon Town, is also expected to be available.

Joss Labadie, who received stitches in a gash sustained on Tuesday, is doubtful. But Flynn says the midfielder could be fit.
